Lime Kiln Refractory Solutions

Project description
Lime production depends on high-temperature kiln processes that place significant demands on refractory linings. Depending on the kiln design and operating conditions, these linings may be exposed to intense heat, thermal cycling, mechanical abrasion and chemical attack. Different kiln zones therefore require refractory materials suited to their individual operating conditions.
YCC supports lime producers by sourcing suitable refractory bricks, insulation materials and other refractory products through its supply network. We also provide refractory services covering Surveys & Inspections, On & Off-Site Installation, Routine Maintenance, Shutdowns & Overhauls, and Provision of Skilled Staff to support lining projects from material procurement through installation and maintenance.
Key Details
- Applications: Rectangular and circular PFR lime shaft kilns
- Critical zones: Inlet, burning zone, outlet and arch, depending on kiln design
- Operating conditions: High temperatures, thermal cycling, abrasion and chemical exposure
- Material options: Basic and fireclay bricks, insulation bricks and specified insulation boards
- Project support: Material sourcing, inspections, installation, maintenance, shutdowns and skilled personnel
Key Refractory Considerations
High-Temperature Exposure
Refractory materials must suit the temperatures and operating conditions experienced in each kiln zone.
Thermal Cycling
Repeated changes in temperature can stress refractory linings and influence material selection and installation requirements.
Abrasion & Dust
Movement of limestone and lime, along with dust exposure, can contribute to refractory wear in specific areas.
Chemical Compatibility
Refractory composition should be considered against the chemical conditions encountered during lime processing.
Working Lining
The hot-face lining must be suited to the thermal, chemical and mechanical demands of its intended location.
Safety Lining
Where specified by the kiln design, a backing or safety layer provides an additional lining layer behind the working lining.
Thermal Insulation
Suitable insulating materials help manage heat transfer through the kiln lining and support the intended thermal design.
Maintenance & Shutdown Planning
Inspection findings can help identify areas requiring attention and inform repair, material sourcing and planned shutdown activities.
